Mark Selby v Stephen Maguire live stream | Welsh Open 2025 Final preview
Mark Selby does battle with Stephen Maguire in Llandudno on Sunday for the right to be crowned the 2025 Welsh Open champion.
Two of the game’s stalwarts go head to head over the best of 17 frames at Venue Cymru, where the winner will pocket a cheque for £100,000 and lift the Ray Reardon trophy.
Both players are appearing in their third Welsh Open final, and aiming to become the ninth multiple winner of the third-longest running ranking event on the calendar.
Selby won this tournament in 2008 and was runner-up to Ding Junhui four years later, while Maguire lifted the trophy in 2013 – two years after losing out to John Higgins.
This will be the fourth meeting between the players at the Welsh Open, with the Jester prevailing in two of the previous three.
Selby is going for a 24th ranking title that would move him level with Neil Robertson on the all-time list.
The four-time Home Nations event winner will move within one of Series leader Judd Trump (six) with victory, after a week in which he has already beaten two World champions in John Higgins and Luca Brecel.
Selby has also seen off Haydon Pinhey, Elliot Slessor and Jamie Jones to reach his 36th ranking final – and second of this season.
Meanwhile, this is Maguire’s first ranking final in nearly five years, as he aims to become the 20th different winner in the Home Nations Series.
Prior to this week, the Scotsman had not been beyond the last 16 of any ranking event this season.
However, he has enjoyed an upturn in fortunes, defeating three-time World champion Mark Williams, as well as Xu Si, Sanderson Lam, Jack Lisowski and Ali Carter.
Maguire is now one win away from securing his first silverware since the 2020 Tour Championship which, ironically, was due to take place at this venue prior to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The match breaks off at 1pm GMT on Sunday and will be contested over the best of 17 frames at Venue Cymru in Llandudno.
