Ronnie O’Sullivan aims to extend his unbeaten run to 12 games when he faces Gary Wilson in the Quarter-Finals of the World Grand Prix in Leicester on Friday.

O’Sullivan is bidding for a third consecutive televised title, having claimed the UK Championship and Masters titles back-to-back to sustain his remarkable dominance at the age of 48.

The world number one has won this particular tournament on two occasions – in 2018 and 2021 – and has seemingly picked up from where he left off in adding a record-extending eighth Masters crown last weekend.

The Rocket, who overcame his bitter rival Ali Carter 10-7 at Alexandra Palace on Sunday, showed little sign of fatigue as he saw off Pang Junxu 4-2 in the opening round at the Morningside Arena, before edging out Zhou Yuelong in a seventh frame decider on Thursday.

O’Sullivan has two centuries to his name so far and looks to be on a collision course for a potential final showdown with Judd Trump on Sunday.

Wilson, however, will have other ideas as he looks to end O’Sullivan’s rampant run and reach a second successive ranking Semi-Final.

The Tyneside star successfully defended the Scottish Open title last month to close in on a return to the world’s top 16 and has looked in impressive shape again this week.

Wilson began with a 4-2 victory over David Gilbert, before dispatching home favourite Tom Ford by the same scoreline.

He now faces O’Sullivan for the fifth time in professional competition, having won their most recent meeting at the 2022 Scottish Open after The Rocket had won three in a row, including a First Round contest at the 2017 World Championship.

The match gets under way from 1pm GMT and will be contested over the best of 11 frames, with either Ding Junhui or Zhang Anda awaiting the winner in Saturday’s Semi-Finals.
