Judd Trump retains World Open crown after denying Ding Junhui
Judd Trump completed a successful World Open title defence with a commanding 10-4 victory over Ding Junhui in the final on Sunday.
The Ace hit breaks of 130 and 106 to take his tally of centuries for the week to eight, while pocketing the top prize of £170,000 at the Yushan Sports Centre.
It was Trump’s fifth ranking silverware of the campaign – achieving the feat for the third time in five seasons – as he added to his triumphs at the English Open, Wuhan Open, Northern Ireland Open and German Masters.
And the world number two equalled Steve Davis’ total of 28 ranking titles as he moved joint-fourth with the Nugget on the all-time list, behind only Ronnie O’Sullivan (41), Stephen Hendry (36) and John Higgins (31).

Trump hit a top break of 88 as he won the opening three frames of his eighth final of the season, with a run of 59 helping Ding get his first frame on the board.
Although, the Ace restored control by taking the next four with contributions of 79 and 78 along the way. Although, home favourite Ding – eyeing his first ranking title since the 2019 UK Championship – stopped the rot with 106 to conclude the first session at 7-2 behind.
That took the Dragon’s century tally for the week to nine, while Trump moved onto seven with breaks of 130 and 106 moving him a frame from victory at 9-4 up.
A run of 58 proved enough for the world number two, whose marvellous 2023-24 season continues as he took his overall earnings for the campaign beyond the £1 million mark.
