Ding Junhui looks to end his losing streak at the World Championship when he faces Jack Lisowski in the opening round at the Crucible.

In a first round of mouth-watering ties in Sheffield, yet another pits the world number nine against the world number 17.

Ding knows what it takes to go deep in snooker’s blue-riband event, having been runner-up to Mark Selby as a qualifier in 2016.

However, he arrives at the Crucible this year for his 18th successive appearance off the back of three successive first-round exits.

Stuart Bingham, Kyren Wilson and Hossein Vafaei inflicted those defeats on the Dragon, and he faces another tough draw this year in Lisowski.

However, this season’s UK Championship and World Open runner-up does have the psychological advantage of having beaten the left-hander in each of their three previous meetings for the loss of just three frames.

Lisowski will hope to end that barren record as he seeks a positive end to a campaign which saw him drop out of the top 16, and subsequently into the qualifying rounds for this tournament.

Nevertheless, it certainly did not seem to have a negative effect on Jackpot, who dropped just seven frames at the English Institute of Sport as he put Liu Hongyu and two-time runner-up Matthew Stevens to the sword to secure his eighth Crucible appearance.

The six-time ranking event finalist reached the last eight here two years ago following a memorable 13-12 victory over Neil Robertson, who was the standout player of the 2021-22 season with four titles, before narrowly losing out to John Higgins by the same scoreline.

The winner of this best of 19 match will play either Gary Wilson or Stuart Bingham in the World Championship second round.

Play gets under way at 10am BST on Tuesday with the opening nine frames, while playing to a conclusion with a maximum of 10 at the same time the following day.
