Jack Lisowski is targeting a second successive World Snooker Championship quarter-final appearance when he takes on Anthony McGill.

Two members of the Class of 2010 go head to head over the best of 25 frames at the Crucible over three days.

And with Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy suffering first-round exits in their quarter of the draw – and a last-eight clash with Robert Milkins or Si Jiahui at stake – both will sense a brilliant opportunity to reach the one-table setup.

That is temporarily uncharted territory for Lisowski, who was a frame away from reaching the semi-finals 12 months ago – losing 13-12 to four-time champion John Higgins.

Arguably the best player yet to win a ranking event, Jackpot commenced his latest quest to end the drought with a 10-7 victory over Noppon Saengkham, though he was made to sweat a little towards the end as the popular Thai reduced the deficit from 9-4.

Meanwhile, McGill spelt an abrupt end to Trump’s hopes of a second Crucible crown, recovering from 2-0 down to prevail a commanding 10-6 winner.

The Glasgow Gladiator, who hit a break of 119 and a further six over 50, claimed yet another scalp at snooker’s blue-riband event, where he has also beaten the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Selby and Murphy since his 2015 debut.

McGill was a 10-9 winner when he faced Lisowski in the opening round three years ago, going on to reach the semi-finals. And the two-time ranking event winner will hope that serves as a good omen as he targets a fourth appearance in the last eight.

The winner of this best-of-25 match will play Welsh Open champion Milkins or Chinese debutant Si in this year’s World Championship quarter-finals.

Play gets underway at 10am BST on Saturday with the first eight frames. The next eight commence from 2.30pm on Sunday, while a maximum of nine will conclude the contest from 7pm the following day.
