Luca Brecel confident of Crucible chances: “The best times are still to come”
Luca Brecel is looking to break new ground at the Crucible as he targets a first victory in five appearances.
It is now a decade since a 17-year-old Brecel became the youngest player ever to appear at snooker’s spiritual home; breaking Stephen Hendry’s record during his clash with Stephen Maguire.
Fast forward 10 years and the Belgian is still to reach the second round on the sport’s biggest stage; notably surrendering a 7-2 lead against Marco Fu in 2017.
However, the Bullet arrives in Sheffield off the back of an impressive season that has seen him capture the Scottish Open title – a week after he was runner-up to Zhao Xintong at the UK Championship.
Brecel struggled to build on that momentum thereon, failing to progress beyond the last 16 of any ranking event until he reached the Tour Championship semi-finals earlier this month.
