Judd Trump and Hossein Vafaei renew their Crucible rivalry when they lock horns in the World Snooker Championship second round.
The world number one and former World champion goes head to head with a player looking to reach the quarter-finals at the Crucible for the first time.
It is the third time they have met on snooker’s biggest stage, with Trump prevailing in both their previous encounters in 2022 and 2024.
The Ace now looks to complete a hat-trick and book his place in a 12th Crucible quarter-final – and eighth in the last nine years.
Trump appeared in trouble at 4-1 down against Gary Wilson in the opening round, but he recovered to win nine of the last 10 frames and eventually prevail a comfortable winner.
The 2019 World champion has reached at least the semi-finals in nine of his last 11 tournaments, ending his silverware drought at the German Masters in February, and he will be confident of another deep run in Sheffield.
Vafaei, meanwhile, is aiming to progress to the quarter-finals at the Crucible for the first time.
The Iranian qualified for snooker’s blue-riband event for a fourth consecutive year, after dropping just six frames during victories over Michal Szubarczyk and Gao Yang.
And he is the only non-seed still standing in Sheffield following his impressive 10-3 win over 2023 semi-finalist Si Jiahui, during which he made breaks of 105, 81, 78, 68, 65, 61, 60 and 53.
A quarter-final showdown with either four-time Crucible king Mark Selby or International Championship winner Wu Yize awaits whoever prevails in this best-of-25 clash.
The match breaks off at 2.30pm BST on Saturday at the Crucible Theatre, continuing at the same time on Sunday, before playing to a conclusion at 7pm on Monday.
