Former World Champions Judd Trump and Mark Williams face off in an unmissable semi-final showdown at The Crucible.

A re-run of their epic semi-final from three years ago sees Williams bidding to avenge that agonising deciding-frame defeat and book his place in a fifth world final.

Williams has already endured last-frame drama en route to reaching his eighth World Championship semi-final, having edged out fellow ‘Class of 92′ member John Higgins 13-12 on Wednesday.

Higgins had hit back from 12-8 down to force a decider, only to miss the final blue and watch Williams make a nerveless clearance to advance to the hallowed one-table setup at The Crucible.

World Champion in 2000, 2003 and 2018, Williams returned to Sheffield with modest expectations having suffered from problems with his eyesight in recent months, but now has his sights firmly set on becoming the sport’s oldest ever World Champion.

Having turned 50 last month, the Welshman is the oldest semi-finalist since his boyhood hero Ray Reardon reached the same stage in 1985 aged 52.

Williams opened up with a 10-8 victory over Wu Yize, before dispatching Hossein Vafaei 13-10 and holding his nerve to halt Higgins’ comeback in a quarter-final classic.

Trump, meanwhile, has stormed into a sixth semi-final in Sheffield to continue a memorable season which has seen him claim the Saudi Arabia Masters, UK Championship and Shanghai Masters titles.

The world number one made his 100th century break of the season en route to a 13-10 victory over Shaun Murphy in the second round, scooping a £100,000 bonus in the process.

Prior to that, he had safely seen off Zhao Yuelong 10-4 in the opening round and produced a blistering third session to reel off five consecutive frames for a 13-8 victory over 2023 World Champion Luca Brecel on Wednesday.

The 2019 World Champion, who also finished runner-up in 2011 and 2022, has made 11 centuries in the tournament so far and has not lost at this stage of the competition for a decade.

Trump has dominated the head-to-heads between the two players with 15 wins to Williams’ eight, including a dramatic 10-9 success in this season’s Saudi Masters to seal the £500,000 top prize.

The match gets under way from 7pm BST on Thursday for a maximum of eight frames, before resuming from 2.30pm on Friday and 10am on Saturday and being played to a finish over the best of 33 from 7pm that evening.

Former UK Champion Zhao Xintong will await the winner in the final, which commences on Sunday afternoon.
