Judd Trump commences his 2025 World Championship campaign on Tuesday when he plays the returning Zhou Yuelong at The Crucible.

The world number one is among the favourites to go all the way in Sheffield this year, and add to the title he won in emphatic fashion six years ago.

Trump, who made his debut in the final stages of snooker’s blue-riband event in 2007, is making his 15th successive appearance at The Crucible, and has reached at least the quarter-finals in six of his last seven.

Also runner-up in 2011 and 2022, the Ace arrives with three titles under his belt this season – at the Shanghai Masters, Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters and UK Championship – while he was also a beaten finalist at the Players Championship.

Snooker fans will be keeping a close eye on Trump’s scoring this year. Currently on 93 centuries for the season, he requires seven more to earn a bonus prize of £100,000.

The Bristolian could make some headway with a positive start against Zhou, who he has beaten in each of their five previous meetings (excluding the Championship League).

Ironically, the Chinese’s last World Championship appearance was in 2019 – the year Trump reigned at The Crucible.

Zhou, who lost in the final qualifying round in four consecutive years, sealed his return with a pair of 10-5 victories over Ishpreet Singh Chadha and Yuan Sijun last week.

The world number 32 reached the World Open last 16 in his most recent event, but that represents his best performance of the season. Although, he has recorded two victories over outgoing World champion Kyren Wilson, including a 6-0 whitewash in Shanghai.

Either 2005 World champion or Crucible debutant Daniel Wells awaits the winner of this clash in the second round.

The match breaks off at 7pm BST on Tuesday with the opening nine frames, before resuming the same time on Wednesday with a maximum of ten.
