The world’s top cueists descend on The Crucible for the 2022 World Snooker Championship, and you can follow the latest results and schedule of play here.

The sport’s annual show-piece features the world’s top 16 ranked players alongside a further 16 qualifiers as they battle it out for £2.4 million in prize money from April 16 to May 2.

A host of decorated stars and exciting emerging talents lock horns at the sport’s spiritual home for the 46th consecutive staging in Sheffield.

Mark Selby is the defending champion after he defeated Shaun Murphy 18-15 in last year’s final to claim the crown for a fourth time, and ‘The Jester’ is bidding to become only the fifth player to win five or more world titles.

World number one Ronnie O’Sullivan returns to The Crucible in search of a record-equalling seventh world title, having claimed the World Grand Prix crown this season.

Judd Trump, the reigning Champion of Champions and Turkish Masters winner, is out to double his world title tally following his maiden triumph in 2019.

Neil Robertson, who first tasted Crucible success in 2010, has racked up three ranking titles this season as well as The Masters crown and is the pre-tournament favourite to round off a dominant campaign in style.

Four-time World Champion John Higgins is aiming to end a run of four consecutive ranking final defeats this season, while three-time World Champion Mark Williams leads a group of six Welshmen vying for glory this year.

Other former champions looking to reign again include 2015 winner Stuart Bingham and 2005 champion Shaun Murphy, while former finalists Kyren Wilson, Ding Junhui, Barry Hawkins and Matthew Stevens also return in search of the sport’s top prize.

First Round matches are to be contested over the best of 19 frames, with Second Round and Quarter-Final ties best of 25, Semi-Finals best of 33 and the final best of 35.
