Ronnie O’Sullivan resumes his Wuhan Open campaign when he goes head to head with Mark Davis in the second round on Tuesday.

The seven-time World champion is targeting his second title in three events this season, having triumphed at the Shanghai Masters last month.

The Rocket endured a week of mixed fortunes at the English Open last time out. Struggling with an ongoing elbow injury, he produced three centuries in his entertaining 4-1 win over Jackson Page, but succumbed to eventual runner-up Zhang Anda in the last 16.

Nevertheless, he was in fine scoring form against Ken Doherty in the opening round of this event, recovering from losing the opening frame with breaks of 89, 88 and 82 in a 5-1 victory.

O’Sullivan has six of his nine previous meetings with Davis stretching back to their maiden encounter at the Scottish Open back in 2001.

Although, the Battler from Hastings was a commanding 6-1 winner in their most recent showdown in the 2018 English Open semi-finals, and will look to draw inspiration from that result in his bid to claim a scalp here.

Veteran Davis survived relegation from the tour by the skin of his teeth last season, and will hope to stay as far away from danger as possible this time around.

The 51-year-old beat good friend Joe Perry on the way to reaching the English Open last 32, but then scored just seven points as he was comprehensively whitewashed by John Higgins.

The winner of this match will play 2023 WST Classic finalist Pang Junxu in the last 32 of the Wuhan Open.

Play gets under way at 12.30pm BST on Wednesday and will be contested over the best of nine frames at Wuhan Gymnasium.
