Ronnie O’Sullivan v Luca Brecel live stream | Snooker 900 Global Championship final preview
Ronnie O’Sullivan and Luca Brecel go head-to-head in the final of the inaugural Snooker 900 Global Championship in Reading on Sunday.
The two former World Champions collide over two sessions in a showpiece climax to the ground-breaking new imitational tournament.
Snooker 900 represents one of the boldest innovations in modern cue sports, blending traditional snooker skill with a faster, more television-friendly format.
The ‘900’ concept refers to the strict 900-second, or 15-minute, limit placed on each frame. Unlike conventional snooker matches, which can sometimes produce lengthy tactical battles, the Global Snooker 900 Championship emphasizes attacking play, quick decision-making, and entertainment. A shot clock — typically set between 20 and 30 seconds depending on the event stage — forces players to maintain tempo throughout matches. Additional rules, including ball-in-hand after fouls and requirements for balls to contact cushions, are designed to reduce negative play and encourage aggressive scoring.
O’Sullivan is bidding to make it back-to-back titles in the space of seven days, having been crowned World Seniors Champion at The Crucible last week.
The seven-time World Champion opened up with a narrow 5-4 win over Billy Castle on Friday which saw him produce a timely break of 79 in the deciding frame.
The Rocket then overcame 2024 World Champion Kyren Wilson 6-4 in Saturday’s semi-finals with a century break in the opening frame amongst his highlights.
Brecel, meanwhile, began by edging past Austria’s Florian Nussle in a last-frame decider, before dispatching recent World Seniors Championship runner-up Joe Perry 6-3.
O’Sullivan has won five of his seven previous meetings with the Belgian in traditional format snooker, including the finals of both the 2023 Shanghai Masters and 2024 Saudi Arabia Masters.
However, it was Brecel who prevailed in their most high-profile meeting to date in the quarter-finals of the 2023 World Championship, pulling off a remarkable comeback from 10-6 down to win 13-10 en route to claiming a maiden world title.
The final gets under way from 12pm BST for a total of nine frames, before being played to a finish from 6pm over the best of 19.
