Hong Kong Masters returns to snooker calendar after five-year absence

The Macau Masters was launched on Wednesday

Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump will headline a star-studded field at the 2023 Macau Masters.

The eight-player invitational will commence on Christmas Day and will run until December 29 at the 5-star Wynn Palace hotel.

The lucrative event, which is being staged by a local promoter and is not sanctioned by WST, will feature a top prize of £150,000.

Seven-time World Champion O’Sullivan and 2019 World Champion Trump will be joined in the event by Chinese talisman Ding Junhui, three-time World Champion Mark Williams and multiple ranking event winner Kyren Wilson.

Multiple ranking event finalist Jack Lisowski, Hong Kong star Marco Fu and recent World Championship semi-finalist Si Jiahui also feature.

The exhibition event slots into a gap in the WST calendar, with the German Masters qualifiers finishing on December 22 and the Championship League Invitational event  getting under way on January 2.

Reigning World Champion Luca Brecel, UK Champion Mark Allen and former World Champions Neil Robertson and John Higgins are among the star names not involved.

The previous edition of the Macau Masters was held in 2018, co-sanctioned by the WPBSA and the China Billiards and Snooker Association, with Barry Hawkins defeating Mark Williams in the final.
