Mark Allen goes head to head with Shaun Murphy in the first of this year’s Masters semi-finals at Alexandra Palace on Saturday.

The 2018 champion collides with the 2015 winner, as both players look to move within one victory of landing a second Masters crown.

This will be the third meeting between the players at Alexandra Palace. Murphy was a commanding 6-2 winner at this stage on his way to lifting the Paul Hunter trophy 10 years ago, though Allen dethroned the Magician in the opening match of the tournament 12 months later.

Interestingly, though, Murphy has won six of their eight previous semi-final encounters, while a good omen is that he also beat the Pistol on the way to winning another of his three major titles at the 2008 UK Championship.

The Magician is targeting his 10th Triple Crown final and third Masters showpiece, and he was in superb form during his 6-2 victory over two-time winner Neil Robertson in the last eight.

Murphy, who beat Gary Wilson 6-3 in round one, hit breaks of 90, 82, 67 and 66, as well as going agonisingly close to making a maximum break in the final frame – just running out of position when he snookered himself behind the yellow.

Allen was also a 6-2 winner in the last eight, with top contributions of 104 and 81 helping him battle past three-time champion Mark Selby.

The Pistol, who also defeated debutant Si Jiahui by the same scoreline in round one, now hopes it will be a lucky 13th Triple Crown semi-final, with a second appearance in the Masters showpiece up for grabs.

A mouth-watering showdown with either world number one Judd Trump or reigning World champion Kyren Wilson awaits the winner in Sunday’s final.

The match breaks off at 1pm GMT on Saturday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at Alexandra Palace.
