Former Masters champions Judd Trump and Ding Junhui face off in a mouth-watering first round clash at Alexandra Palace on Wednesday.
The decorated duo collide in the sport’s most prestigious invitational event for the second successive year, with Trump having triumphed 6-3 in the 2025 quarter-finals.
Trump also came out on top 6-2 when the pair met in last month’s UK Championship quarter-finals before going on to finish runner-up in York.
Trump is one of 12 multiple Masters champions, having lifted the Paul Hunter Trophy here in 2019 and 2023, and has not lost in the opening round since 2020.
The world number one is searching for his first silverware of the season after failing to win a title in 2025, and has finished runner-up in the Northern Ireland Open, Champion of Champions and UK Championship.
Ding, meanwhile, made his Masters debut back in 2004 and was the last played to lift the trophy at the Wembley Arena in 2011, becoming the first Asian player to do so.
His record since then, however, has made for underwhelming reading, with a semi-final run in 2019 marking his best effort at Ally Pally, amongst nine first round exits.
Quarter-finalist in the Xi’an Grand Prix, UK Championship and Shanghai Masters this season, Ding is vying to end a run of four straight defeats to Trump in all competitions and join Chinese compatriots Zhao Xintong, Xiao Guodong and Wu Yize in the Last Eight.
The match gets under way from 1pm GMT and will be contested over the best of 11 frames, with 2018 Masters champion Mark Allen awaiting the winner in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
