Judd Trump and Barry Hawkins renew their Masters rivalry when they collide in the opening round on Tuesday.
The left-handers will be meeting at Alexandra Palace for the fifth time, with three of their four previous such encounters going to a deciding frame.
Trump has prevailed in both their previous first-round clashes in 2013 and 2023, while Hawkins was victorious in their semi-final showdowns of 2016 and 2022.
The pair also contested the UK Championship showpiece just over six weeks ago, with Trump coming through a 10-8 to complete part one of what he hopes will be a major slam this season.
It was the world number one’s third silverware of the campaign in which he has also triumphed at the Shanghai Masters and inaugural Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters.
The Ace is now looking to complete a hat-trick of Masters successes, having lifted the Paul Hunter trophy in 2019 and 2023, and has not been beaten in the opening round for five years.
Trump has also won each of his last five meetings with Hawkins stretching back to his defeat in the 2023 European Masters final.
Like the Bristolian, the Hawk is making his 14th appearance at the Masters, in which he is a two-time finalist and lost his opening match just twice in the last eight years.
Having beaten Trump to reach both of those finals, Hawkins will hope that serves as a positive omen for him this time around.
A showdown with Ding Junhui awaits the winner of this match in the quarter-finals.
The match breaks off at 1pm GMT on Tuesday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at Alexandra Palace.
