Judd Trump bids for revenge over Barry Hawkins when the pair collide in the Quarter-Finals of the 2023 Masters at Alexandra Palace on Friday.
Trump was edged out in a deciding frame by Hawkins in an epic Masters Semi-Final 12 months ago and will be keen to atone for that heartbreak when the left-handed stars meet again.
Trump lifted this prestigious trophy in 2019 and is eyeing a place in a sixth Semi-Final here since 2012 in his continued pursuit of a first tournament win of the season.
The world number four has been installed as the new tournament favourite following the exit of Ronnie O’Sullivan on Thursday, but faces another formidable test against a player who often produces his brilliant best at this venue.
Trump can count himself somewhat fortunate to be still in contention this week, having battled back from 5-3 down to deny Ryan Day in a decider, despite being far below his best.
The Bristolian has lost in three ranking event Quarter-Finals this season and has not had the better of Hawkins in their last three meetings.
Hawkins remains in pursuit of an elusive maiden Masters crown, having finished runner-up in 2016 and 2022, and is vying for a fourth Semi-Final appearance.
The three-time ranking event winner enjoyed a contrastingly comfortable opening tie this week, whitewashing this season’s stand-out performer Mark Allen 6-0 with a top break of 114 to his name.
Runner-up in this season’s European Masters, ‘The Hawk’ defeated Trump 5-3 in the Quarter-Finals on that particular event and has won nine of their 15 previous meetings in total.
The match gets under way from 1pm GMT and will be contested over the best of 11 frames, with either Shaun Murphy or Stuart Bingham awaiting the winner in Saturday’s Semi-Finals.
