Judd Trump v Shaun Murphy live stream | Shanghai Masters Final preview
Judd Trump goes head to head with Shaun Murphy on Sunday for the right to be crowned the 2024 Shanghai Masters champion.
The two best players of the week will lock horns over the best of 21 frames at Shanghai Indoor Stadium for the top prize of £210,000.
Whoever prevails will also become the 10th different winner in 15 editions of the event which began in 2007 – the year the two players met for the first time at the World Championship.
Trump would lose 10-6 on what was his Crucible debut but, 17 years later, enters their 40th showdown overall having won each of the last three.
The Ace was a dominant 10-3 winner in the 2019 International Championship showpiece – the most recent final clash between the pair – though Murphy won 4-2 in their 2017 Gibraltar Open final encounter.
This is also a battle of the former Shanghai Masters finalists, with both players desperate to go the extra step this time around.
Trump suffered final-frame heartbreak against John Higgins – from 7-2 up – and Kyren Wilson in 2012 and 2015 respectively, while he was soundly beaten 10-3 by Ronnie O’Sullivan in 2017.
The Bristolian certainly gained his revenge on the Rocket as he turned the tables seven years on later – hitting four centuries on the way to sweeping the Rocket aside by the same scoreline on Saturday.
O’Sullivan subsequently saw his 21-match winning streak in the event brought to an abrupt end, while Trump averted a sixth straight defeat to the five-time champion – adding to his pair of 6-2 wins over Mark Williams and Si Jiahui.
Murphy was also denied the title by the Rocket five years ago, suffering a narrow 11-9 loss in the showpiece.
The Magician’s hopes of returning to that stage could have been hampered when he arrived in Shanghai unable to retrieve his luggage at the start of the week.
Nevertheless, that brief hiccup did not affect him on the table as he beat John Higgins 6-3 and Zhou Yuelong 6-2.
Murphy then overturned 6-2 and 8-5 deficits, winning each of the last five frames to stun good friend Mark Selby 10-8 in the semi-finals – during which he made four centuries.
Neutrals can expect an exciting climax to this year’s Shanghai Masters with two of the game’s most attacking players arriving into the best-of-21 showdown in free-scoring form.
Play gets under way at 7am BST on Sunday with the opening 10 frames, while resuming at 12.30pm with a maximum of 11 at Shanghai Indoor Stadium.
