Trump was the last man standing in Shanghai

Judd Trump soared to the first Shanghai Masters title of his career with a commanding 11-5 victory over Shaun Murphy on Sunday.

Runner-up at the popular event on three occasions, the Ace finally added his name to the roll of honour, becoming the 10th different winner in 15 editions.

Trump hit three centuries to take his tally for the week to 10 – a record in a single Shanghai Masters – on the way to claiming the top prize of Β£210,000 at Shanghai Indoor Stadium.

It was the Bristolian’s 40th professional title while Murphy, who also reached the 2019 showpiece, fell at the final hurdle for the second time.

Both players wore black armbands as a mark of respect to the late Ray Reardon, who passed away on Friday at the age of 91, with the audience observing a minute’s silence in his honour.

Trump was fresh from dethroning reigning champion Ronnie O’Sullivan in the semi-finals – ending the Rocket’s 21-match winning streak in the event – and controlled the opening two frames with a run of 59 along the way.

Murphy responded with a 147 attempt and, despite breaking down after missing the 12th black, his contribution of 89 was enough to halve the deficit.

However, the Ace soon restored his authority on proceedings with breaks of 55 and 100 helping put him 5-1 to the good.

He followed that up with a 122 after his opponent was unfortunate to go in-off while attempting to split the pack.

A run of 49 made it 7-1, though Murphy stopped the rot with breaks of 56 and 132 reducing the deficit at the conclusion of the afternoon.

Trump surrendered a 7-2 advantage before suffering final-frame heartbreak against John Higgins in the 2012 showpiece.

But there were to be no such slip-ups this time around. Breaks of 61, 86 and 114 – his 10th century of the week – moved him to the brink of victory at 10-3 up.

Murphy prolonged the final with back-to-back tons of 110 and 101, but it merely delayed the inevitable, with a run of 69 getting Trump over the line.
