British Open Snooker 2021 – Day Four Preview and Order of Play

Judd Trump and Mark Selby resume their battle to be world number one as the British Open continues on Thursday.

The second round draws to a conclusion at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, where just 32 players will remain by the close of play.

World number one since August 2019, Trump’s reign at the summit of the rankings is under serious threat.

With his £175,000 prize money from winning that year’s International Championship set to drop off – along with the addition of £500,000 to World champion Selby’s tally – the Ace must better the Jester’s performance this week to maintain his grip on top spot.

Although, both players face tricky second-round ties; Trump playing Stuart Bingham while Selby goes up against Ali Carter.

Elsewhere, maximum man John Higgins also faces tough opposition in Cao Yupeng, who marked his return to the tour by reaching the final stage of the Championship League last week.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of crowd favourites on display on day four.

Four-time champion Stephen Hendry locks horns with Gary Wilson, six-time World finalist Jimmy White faces Allan Taylor and 1997 Crucible winner Ken Doherty goes up against Joe O’Connor.

Championship League victor David Gilbert looks to continue his momentum against John Astley, while Martin Gould and Ricky Walden take on Lu Ning and Robbie Williams respectively.

Play commences at 9am BST on Thursday with all matches contested over the best of five frames at the Morningside Arena in Leicester.
