Mark Selby locks horns with Jack Lisowski in a mouth-watering British Open quarter-final showdown in Cheltenham on Friday.
The former champion takes on the home favourite over the best of nine frames at The Centaur, with a place in the last four at stake.
They have met at this event a couple of times before. Their most notable encounter came in the round of 16 in 2022, when Selby played a memorable treble on the 12th red on his way to completing a maximum break.
The Jester went on to win that game 4-1, and was also victorious when they collided in the following year’s quarter-finals, prevailing 5-4.
However, their overall head-to-head is close to call, with Selby shading it 10-9 across all tournaments.
The 2024 British Open champion is arguably the most consistent player at this event since it returned to the calendar in 2021.
He also reached the 2023 final and semi-finals last year, and this will be his fifth successive appearance in the last eight.
Selby won three straight deciders this week against David Lilley, Lei Peifan and Jackson Page, before defeating Iulian Boiko 4-2 in the round of 16 on Thursday to progress to his 112th career ranking quarter-final.
Lisowski has also been forced to dig deep this week, and finally get his season up and running, with this the only event he has qualified for thus far.
‘Jackpot’ overturned 3-1 deficits in as many matches, beating Mitchell Mann on the final black and also overcoming Ishpreet Singh Chadha 4-3.
Although, the round of 16 proved far more straightforward for Lisowski, who took just over an hour to wrap up a comfortable 4-1 victory over Lyu Haotian.
Equalling his best British Open performance, the left-hander is set for his 32nd ranking quarter-final, with a 14th semi-final appearance his target.
A good omen for him is the fact his most recent victory over Selby – in the round of 32 at last season’s Northern Ireland Open – culminated in him finally landing that elusive maiden ranking title.
The match breaks off at 1pm and will be contested over the best of nine frames at The Centaur in Cheltenham.
