Mark Selby and John Higgins bring the 2024 British Open to a dramatic climax as they collide in a blockbuster final on Sunday.

The tournament concludes at The Centaur in Cheltenham with a mouth-watering battle over the best of 19 frames between two four-time World champions.

At stake is the Clive Everton trophy, a £100,000 top prize, as well as a welcome return to the winners’ circle for whoever prevails.

It would be Selby’s first ranking title since winning the WST Classic 18 months ago, while Higgins would end his three-and-a-half year wait since that memorable 2021 Players Championship triumph.

While the Jester has prevailed in the last three meetings between the players (excluding the Championship League), the Wizard will draw on fond memories of three years ago and the comprehensive 6-0 rout he inflicted on Selby, who scored just seven points, on the way to Players Championship glory.

The two players have endured contrasting routes to the showpiece; Selby coming through four deciding frames, and Higgins dropping just six.

Selby has demonstrated his trademark determination to reach his 35th ranking final – and first since he was runner-up to Mark Williams here 12 months ago.

The Jester edged out Pang Junxu, Yuan Sijun, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh and David Gilbert – the latter having led 4-1 – before saving his best for the semi-finals against Mark Allen, who he beat 6-3 with breaks of 105, 95 and 77 along the way.

As for Higgins – a four-time winner of this event – he has already taken out two fellow former World champions in Shaun Murphy and Graeme Dott earlier in the week.

The 49-year-old has then seen off Rory Thor, Elliot Slessor and Oliver Lines for the loss of just a single frame. He is now just one victory away from becoming the second-oldest ranking event winner after the late Ray Reardon, who had just turned 50 when he captured the 1982 Professional Players Tournament.

We are set for a fitting finale to another exciting week, with two of snooker’s all-time greats going head to head for glory.

The final gets under way at 1pm BST with the opening eight frames, before playing to a conclusion from 7pm with a maximum of 11 at The Centaur in Cheltenham.
