Mark Selby v Mark Williams live stream | British Open 2023 final preview

Multiple World Champions Mark Selby and Mark Williams lock horns in the final of the 2023 British Open in Cheltenham on Sunday.

The decorated duo go head-to-head in a ranking final for the fifth time as they vie for the £100,000 top prize at The Centaur.

Selby is hoping this will be the day he finally ends his wait for a maiden triumph in an ITV-televised tournament.

The four-time World Champion is making his 34th appearance in a ranking final, and has demonstrated his trademark determination and tenacity in order to do so.

After dispatching Ben Woollaston, Tian Pengfei and Si Jiahui, the Jester came through two dramatic deciding-frame finishes against David Gilbert (who went in-off on the final black) and home favourite Jack Lisowski.

A contrastingly straightforward Semi-Final saw ‘The Jester’ whitewash Xiao Guodong 6-0 on Saturday to eclipse his run to the semis of the recent European Masters.

Williams, meanwhile, is through to a landmark 40th career ranking final since turning professional back in 1992 and is eyeing a second British Open title in the space of three years.

The laidback Welshman has seen off the likes of Stephen Maguire, Gary Wilson and Ding Junhui this week was in fine scoring form as he swept Fan Zhengyi aside 5-1 in the Quarter-Finals with two centuries along the way.

He then overcame Iran’s Hossein Vafaei 6-3 in the Semi-Finals to move within touching distance of a first ranking title since this event two years ago.

Of their 25 previous meetings dating back to the 1999 UK Championship, Selby has won 14 to Williams’ 11, most recently a 13-3 rout in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 World Championship.

The final gets under way from 1pm BST for a maximum of nine frames, before resuming to a finish over the best of 19 from 7pm.
