Judd Trump is one of three former World champions vying for a place in the English Open semi-finals at Brentwood Centre on Friday.

Mark Selby and Neil Robertson are the other two ex-Crucible kings among the quarter-finalists, with Mark Allen also still standing in the season’s opening Home Nations event.

Trump goes head to head with Wu Yize for a second successive ranking tournament, having recovered from 4-0 down to prevail 5-4 on his way to winning the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters earlier this month.

The world number one resumes his bid for a third English Open title – and his third silverware already of this campaign, in which he has won 18 of his 19 matches.

Meanwhile, Yize aims to avenge that defeat in Riyadh, and is fresh from defeating the likes of Stuart Bingham, Ali Carter and Ben Woollaston to reach his third ranking quarter-final.

Robertson, who lifted this trophy in 2021, and Barry Hawkins face off in the pick of the last-eight ties.

The resurgent Aussie is appearing in back-to-back ranking quarter-finals, having also reached this stage in Riyadh, and has dropped only three frames this week.

This is also Hawkins’ second venture to the last eight at a ranking event this term, with the Hawk defeating reigning World champion Kyren Wilson on Thursday.

Selby continues his quest to complete a hat-trick of English Open titles against first-time ranking quarter-finalist Ishpreet Singh Chadha.

The Jester demonstrated his trademark battling qualities to edge past Si Jiahui in the last 16, and he knows he will be in for a tough test here.

Indeed, the Indian – in only his second season as a professional – defeated Graeme Dott to qualify, before recovering from 3-1 down against 2024 Crucible finalist Jak Jones. Hossein Vafaei was then put to the sword along with He Guoqiang – the man who eliminated Ronnie O’Sullivan.

The other quarter-final pits Allen against last season’s Northern Ireland Open runner-up Wakelin.

The Pistol battled past John Higgins in the last 16 to reach his first quarter-final of the campaign, while his opponent has already seen off the likes of Zhang Anda, Joe Perry and Pang Junxu.

Play gets under way at 12pm BST on Friday with all matches contested over the best of nine frames at Brentwood Centre.
