Mark Allen and Jak Jones do battle on Saturday for the right to face Zhou Yuelong in the 2025 English Open final.
The former UK and Masters winner goes head to head with the former Crucible runner-up in the second semi-final at the Brentwood Centre, where Zhou awaits the victor following his 6-3 triumph over Mark Selby.
Allen is gearing up for his third English Open semi-final – also reaching this stage in 2019 and 2022 – and to say he has earned the right to get there is an understatement.
After edging out Stuart Bingham 4-3 in the last 32, the Pistol was on the brink of defeat at 3-0 down against Ding Junhui in the last 16.
However, he recovered to prevail 4-3 again, before overturning a 4-0 deficit to break Elliot Slessor’s heart in the quarter-finals.
Next up for Allen is his eighth Home Nations semi-final, winning three of the previous seven, and he boasts a dominant 6-1 head-to-head record against Jones.
The Welshman enjoyed a fairytale run to the Crucible showpiece 16 months ago, though he has subsequently struggled to build on that momentum and slipped out of the world’s top 16.
This is Jones’ first ranking semi-final appearance since his exploits in Sheffield, his third overall and first in the Series.
The Silent Assassin has come through deciding frames against three-time ranking event winner Ricky Walden and namesake Jamie, while also putting former International Championship victor Zhang Anda and maximum man Aaron Hill to the sword.
Two of the game’s fiercest competitors, we can expect a tough battle between them, with Zhou awaiting whoever prevails in Sunday’s final.
The match breaks off at 7pm BST on Saturday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the Brentwood Centre.
