Mark Allen and Zhou Yuelong do battle for the season’s first Home Nations title on Sunday when they contest the English Open final.
The best-of-17 showpiece at the Brentwood Centre pits the week’s comeback king against the player who has defeated three former World champions along the way.
It is a repeat of the 2022 Northern Ireland Open final, when Allen reeled off eight straight frames from 4-1 down for a commanding 9-4 victory on home soil.
The Pistol is now looking to win his fourth Home Nations title, and 12th ranking silverware to move level with Shaun Murphy.
This will be Allen’s 20th ranking final and first in 2025, and he will be confident having won each of his last five.
Not only that, but he has escaped from the brink of elimination to win deciders in three successive matches. After overturning 3-0 and 4-0 deficits against Ding Junhui and Elliot Slessor respectively, the former UK and Masters champion then battled back from 5-3 down to stun Jak Jones in the semi-finals.
Zhou’s run to his fourth career ranking final has not been quite as dramatic, though he did edge out Luca Brecel 5-4 on the final pink after a 52-minute decider in the quarter-finals.
Also during that run were victories over Mark Williams and Barry Hawkins, recovering from 2-0 to win 4-2 against the latter, before he put Mark Selby to the sword 6-3 in the last four.
Zhou, also a beaten finalist at the European Masters and Shoot Out in 2020, will hope this is the day he finally gets his hands on ranking event silverware.
The Chinese would be the ninth player from his nation to do so, while it would mark the sixth time a player has won their maiden ranking crown during the Home Nations Series.
This mouth-watering best-of-17-frame final breaks off at 1pm BST on Sunday with the opening eight frames, before resuming at 7pm with a maximum of nine at the Brentwood Centre.
