Ronnie O’Sullivan looks to produce another scintillating display when he faces Si Jiahui in the last 32 of the English Open on Thursday.

The Rocket was in marvellous form during his second-round victory over Jackson Page on Wednesday, and he will be targeting more of the same against Si at the Brentwood Centre 24 hours on.

O’Sullivan hit three centuries during his high-quality contest with Page, with breaks of 105, 109 and 122 wrapping up a 4-1 win over the rising Welsh star.

That came after a 4-0 whitewash of Andrew Pagett, and he is looking to make it back-to-back titles this season having landed the Shanghai Masters crown in his only previous WST tournament of the campaign.

It would also be his second English Open triumph six years after his first, though he will not be taking anything for granted against third-round opponent Si.

The rising Chinese star announced himself to the snooker world during his wonderful run to the Crucible semi-finals last April, before he suffered a heartbreaking defeat against eventual champion Luca Brecel.

And he has fond memories of this tournament, having beaten Stuart Bingham and Zhou Yuelong on his way to reaching the last 16 during his maiden season on the tour in 2019.

Four years on and Si, who claimed the scalp of Neil Robertson at last week’s British Open, almost failed to qualify for the English Open, recovering from 3-1 down to scrape past Alexander Ursenbacher a few weeks ago.

Nevertheless, he is now targeting aiming to progress beyond the last 32 of any tournament for the first time this season after inflicting a 4-0 whitewash on veteran Fergal O’Brien in round two.

The winner of this match will play either Elliot Slessor or Zhang Anda in the last 16 of the English Open.

Play gets under way at around 2pm BST on Thursday and will be contested over the best of seven frames at the Brentwood Centre.
