Two players have tested positive for Covid-19 at the European Masters, while a further three players who came into contact with them have also been withdrawn.

Tyneside’s Gary Wilson and Welshman Daniel Wells both received a positive result from their Covid test at the venue in Milton Keynes on Tuesday morning.

Fellow North East cueists Elliot Slessor and David Lilley came into direct contact with Wilson on Monday, while Michael White came into contact with his compatriot Wells.

As a precaution, Slessor, Lilley and White have also been withdrawn from the event at the decision of WST.

The opponents of the five withdrawn players will now receive a bye into the Second Round of the season’s second ranking event at the Marshall Arena.

Wilson was scheduled to play Duane Jones and Wells was poised for a show-down with reigning World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan.

White was due to play Mark Selby, while Slessor was set to face James Cahill and Lilley was drawn to face David Gilbert.

All five players will now undergo a period of self-isolation and are receiving support from WST.

All other players and staff to be tested so far this week have returned a negative result.
