German Masters 2024 | Day Two Preview and Order of Play
Ali Carter resumes his German Masters title defence when he plays Peng Yisong at the Tempodrom in Berlin on Tuesday.
The Captain is aiming to complete a hat-trick in Berlin, having lifted the trophy 12 months ago following a commanding 10-3 victory over Tom Ford in the final.
Carter, who also triumphed in 2013, is certainly in form to go deep again this week, having already reached the final of this season’s Wuhan Open and Masters.
Although he was taken to a deciding frame from 4-2 up against Michael White in his heldover match, the world number 11 held his nerve to ensure a winning start to his defence, which continues against a player ranked 81 places lower in Peng.
Judd Trump and Mark Williams are also seeking a third German Masters title this week. The Ace, who won in 2020 and 2021, faces former UK and Masters champion Matthew Stevens, with 2011 and 2018 winner Williams taking on British Open quarter-finalist He Guoqiang.
Among the other big names in action are Champion of Champions and Shoot Out winner Mark Allen, whose quest for a third trophy of the season continues against Louis Heathcote, with Neil Robertson looking to build momentum after a poor campaign against namesake Jimmy.
International Championship winner Zhang Anda looks to continue his impressive season against former Shoot Out champion Thepchaiya Un-Nooh as Robert Milkins, who reached the semi-finals here 12 months ago, locks horns with Robbie Williams.
Ryan Day – a 2014 semi-finalist and quarter-finalist on a further five occasions – hopes for another strong run in Berlin, starting against Oliver Brown, with former Shoot Out winner Chris Wakelin playing Andrew Pagett.
David Gilbert, who reached the final here in 2019, faces 2021 Welsh Open champion Jordan Brown and Scottish Open semi-finalist Zhou Yuelong clashes with compatriot Tian Pengfei, as Joe Perry and Ken Doherty collide with Xing Zihao and Julien Leclercq respectively.
Xu Si, who reeled off five successive frames to stun Shaun Murphy, takes on Andrew Higginson, while 2013 finalist Marco Fu’s reward for his 5-1 rout of Mark Selby is a showdown with Alfie Davies.
Play gets under way at 9am GMT on Tuesday with all matches contested over the best of nine frames at the Tempodrom in Berlin.
