Judd Trump is bidding for a historic third German Masters title when he faces Si Jiahui in the final at the Tempodrom in Berlin on Sunday.
Champion in 2020 and 2021, the Ace aims to become the first player to complete a hat-trick of triumphs in the popular event since it was introduced to the calendar 13 years ago.
Also runner-up to Ding Junhui in 2014, Trump is gearing up for his seventh final of a tremendous season, in which he has already captured the English Open, Wuhan Open and Northern Ireland, as well as sealing the BetVictor European Series bonus of £150,000 with a tournament to spare.
The world number two has continued his momentum with victories over Lukas Kleckers, Matthew Stevens, Matthew Selt, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, John Higgins and Sam Craigie, while hitting seven centuries along the way.
He now looks to seal his 27th ranking title and continue his unblemished record against Si, having won each of their four previous meetings, though this is undoubtedly their most significant showdown to date.
Si is gearing up for the biggest match of his career as he aims to become the 76th different ranking event winner in snooker history – and the seventh from China.
It has been a remarkable run to the final for the 21-year-old, who was 4-0 down against Lyu Haotian in his qualifying match back in December.
However, he has not looked back. After beating Mark Joyce, Alfie Davies and Yuan SiJun, the world number 29 reeled off five successive frames from losing the opener against Ryan Day in the quarter-finals, before winning six of the last seven frames from 2-0 down against Kyren Wilson in the semis.
Whatever happens, last season’s Crucible semi-finalist has already broken new ground in his career. Nevertheless, he would love to cap off the week by becoming the second maiden ranking event victor of this term following Zhang Anda’s breakthrough at the International Championship.
The final will be contested over the best of 19 frames at the Tempodrom in Berlin. Play gets under way at 1pm GMT on Sunday with the opening eight frames, before resuming at 7pm with a maximum of 11.
