Zhao Xintong v Yan Bingtao live stream | German Masters 2022 preview
Zhao Xintong and Yan Bingtao go head to head for the right to be crowned the 2022 German Masters champion in Berlin on Sunday.
The two highest-ranked Chinese players in the world – both residents at the highly renowned Victoria Snooker Academy in Sheffield – do battle over 17 frames to lift the Brandon Parker trophy, and pocket the top prize of £80,000 at the Tempodrom.
It is only the second-ever ranking final to be contested by two cueists from China – and first since Ding Junhui overcame Xiao Guodong in the 2013 Shanghai Masters showpiece.
UK champion Zhao is targeting a second ranking title in as many months having enjoyed his big breakthrough at the York Barbican before Christmas.
Just like in York, the Cyclone has progressed to the final in style; defeating three-time World champion Mark Williams 5-3 before ending Judd Trump’s hopes of completing a hat-trick of German Masters titles following a commanding 5-1 win.
He then produced an inspired turnaround from 3-1 down against Ricky Walden, who was made to pay for missing the green when looking certain for a 4-1 advantage.
Indeed, Zhao capitalised on his unexpected opportunity by reeling off five successive frames to reach the showpiece.
Meanwhile, trademark determination and calmness under pressure have been instrumental factors in Yan’s run to his fourth ranking final.
Just like his compatriot, the Tiger has done it in impressive fashion; defeating David Gilbert, Mark Selby, Ryan Day and Mark Allen this week.
He came back from the brink against Selby and Day on Friday; recovering from 4-2 down to stun the World champion 5-4, before overturning a 61-0 deficit at 4-3 behind to deny the Welshman in a decider.
The 2019 Riga Masters champion’s character was evident again during his semi-final victory over Mark Allen, prevailing 6-4 to move one win away from his second ranking title.
Play gets underway at 1pm GMT on Sunday with the opening eight frames, before resuming with a maximum of nine from 7pm at the Tempodrom in Berlin.
