Ali Carter and Robert Milkins meet for the second time in three weeks when they collide in the Players Championship quarter-finals.

The players ranked 15th and 16th in the world respectively go head to head in the first of the last-eight clashes at Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton on Wednesday.

The pair also met in the German Masters semi-finals at the start of the month, with Carter prevailing 6-5 on the way to lifting the trophy at the Tempodrom in Berlin.

That extended the Captain’s impressive record over Milkins, whose last victory in the fixture came courtesy of a 5-1 success at the 2009 Grand Prix (excluding the 2013 Shoot Out).

Although, the Milkman did go on to lift a trophy himself; doing so at the Welsh Open last weekend for a hugely lucrative victory.

Having failed to progress beyond the last 16 of any ranking tournament prior to February, the Gloucester cueist’s triumph in Llandudno saw him eclipse Carter to pocket the BetVictor Series bonus of £150,000 – coupled with his £80,000 winners’ cheque – while he also sealed a long-awaited return to the world’s top 16, as well as a place in this event and the Champion of Champions later this year.

Both players came through deciding frames in the opening round; Carter overcoming Judd Trump and Milkins edging out Tom Ford.

And with the World Championship less than two months away, they will be eager to build on that momentum with another strong run this week with a view to securing their passages to the Crucible as seeded players.

The winner of this match will play either Luca Brecel or Joe O’Connor in the Semi-Finals on Friday.

Play gets underway at 7pm GMT on Wednesday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton.
