Neil Robertson looks to maintain his impressive record against Mark Selby when the pair collide in the Players Championship quarter-finals on Thursday.

Boasting a combined 49 ranking titles – including four this season, with Robertson having recently overtaken Selby following his World Grand Prix triumph – two of the game’s most decorated players go head to head for the right to play World champion Kyren Wilson in the last four at the Telford International Centre.

This fixture has been dominated in recent times by the Australian, with victory at the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters earlier this season his eighth in the last nine meetings between the pair (excluding the Championship League).

Just over a week after he inflicted a 10-0 whitewash on Stuart Bingham in the World Grand Prix showpiece, Robertson was the scourge of Ballrun again in round one of this event.

The Thunder, who also won the English Open in September, roared back from 4-2 down, reeling off the last four frames to remain on course for his third silverware of the season – and second success at this event.

Selby is another of the campaign’s multiple silverware winners, having already landed the British Open, Championship League and Welsh Open.

The Jester is aiming to reach the semi-finals of this event for the second year running, and was in fine scoring form during his 6-3 win over Si Jiahui.

Selby opened with breaks of 123, 75 and 62 and, though pegged back by the Chinese on three occasions, further contributions of 99, 78 and 132 completed the victory to set up this mouth-watering showdown.

Arguably the standout tie of the round, it promises to be an intriguing battle for the right to face Wilson in the semi-finals.

The match breaks off at 1pm GMT on Thursday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the Telford International Centre.
