Mark Allen and Mark Selby go head to head in a mouth-watering opening quarter-final at the inaugural Saudi World Masters of Snooker.
A battle of the Marks – the second in the space of two months – takes centre stage at the Global Theatre in Boulevard City on Tuesday.
If the previous encounter is anything to go by, we should be in for an absolute cracker.
Indeed, their quarter-final at the Masters went the distance. Allen recovered from 4-1 down to prevail in a match that also saw the Pistol produce a marvellous maximum break at Alexandra Palace.
The world number three is fresh from landing his third silverware of the season at the Players Championship, adding to his triumphs at the Champion of Champions and Shoot Out.
Selby also enjoyed a decent week at the Telford International Centre after a steady start to 2024.
The Jester won 12 out of 13 frames as he overcame Barry Hawkins 6-3 from 2-0 down and whitewashed Ronnie O’Sullivan 6-0, before narrowly losing 6-5 to Zhang Anda from 4-0 down in the last four.
Victory in this match would see the British Open runner-up through to his fifth semi-final of the season, having also reached that stage at the European Masters and Shanghai Masters.
The last four meetings between the players have been shared and they have only been separated by two frames or less on each occasion, so it is an encounter that really could go either way.
The winner of this match will play either Luca Brecel or Ali Carter in the Saudi World Masters of Snooker semi-finals.
Play gets under way at 2pm GMT on Tuesday and will be contested over the best of seven frames at the Global Theatre in Boulevard City, Riyadh.
