Judd Trump and Neil Robertson go head to head in a mouth-watering quarter-final clash at the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters on Thursday.
The pick of the last-eight ties in Riyadh is a battle between two of snooker’s most decorated left-handers.
It is fair to say both players have made purposeful starts to the season, suffering just one defeat apiece so far.
Trump is already seeking his third final appearance in as many events, having already lifted the Shanghai Masters and been runner-up to Kyren Wilson at the inaugural Xi’an Grand Prix.
The Ace, who has won 12 of his 13 matches this term, looked like he would be heading for an early exit at 4-0 down against Wu Yize in the last 32.
However, he has won 11 of the next 12 frames played; recovering to prevail 5-4, before hitting three centuries on the way to a 6-1 rout of good friend Jack Lisowski.
Trump can look forward to a tasty clash with Robertson, who has also been on a mission this season in a bid to return to the higher echelons of the game.
The Aussie dropped out of the top 16 during a trophyless 2023-24, which culminated in him failing to qualify for the Crucible.
Nevertheless, the 2010 World champion is looking back to his best this week which, for him, began in the last 80.
After defeating Paul Deaville and Gong Chenzhi for the last of just two frames, Robertson hit two centuries on the way to a 5-3 victory over Mark Selby, before breaks of 141 and 95 were the highlights of his commanding 6-1 win over reigning Scottish and Welsh Open champion Gary Wilson in the last 16.
The winner of this match will play either Shaun Murphy or Xiao Guodong in the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters semi-finals.
The match gets under way at 12pm BST and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the Green Halls in Riyadh.
