Selby begins his quest for a third Scottish Open title (PA Images)

Mark Selby launches his quest for a third Scottish Open title as the first-round action continues in Edinburgh on Tuesday.

The Jester is one of two former winners in action on day two at Meadowbank Sports Centre along with Mark Allen, who lifted the Stephen Hendry trophy in 2018.

Recently crowned Northern Ireland Open champion Jack Lisowski, runner-up to Selby in 2019, is another big name to appear, along with former Crucible king Kyren Wilson.

Fresh from back-to-back triumphs at the Champion of Champions and UK Championship, Selby is riding the crest of a wave, winning each of his last nine matches.

Having completed a hat-trick in York last time out, he will look to follow suit at the season’s third Home Nations event, which he also won in 2020.

His first opponent will be Robbie McGuigan, whose former stepfather Allen takes on Ishpreet Singh Chadha.

Belfast winner Lisowski, meanwhile, looks to continue his Home Nations Series momentum when he faces Wang Yuchen, with Wilson hoping to put his recent cue troubles behind him against Gao Yang.

Elsewhere, Barry Hawkins takes on Jiang Jun, while Ali Carter and Chris Wakelin go up against Zak Surety and Oliver Lines respectively.

Xiao Guodong and Zhou Yuelong are former Scottish Open semi-finalists. Two-time Wuhan Open winner Xiao plays Michael Holt as four-time ranking finalist Zhou locks horns with Sam Craigie.

Jackson Page and Thepchaiya Un-Nooh collide in what promises to be a quickfire encounter between two of the game’s most attacking players, and David Gilbert goes up against Ashley Hugill.

The day’s other games see UK Championship quarter-finalist Pang Junxu go head to head with Robbie Williams, while Elliot Slessor and Hossein Vafaei take on Steven Hallworth and David Grace respectively.

Play gets under way at 10am GMT on Tuesday with all matches contested over the best of seven frames at Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh.
