Chris Wakelin goes head to head with Matthew Selt on Saturday for the right to claim the first place in this year’s Scottish Open final.
The world number 17 takes on the world number 38 in the opening semi-final at Meadowbank Sports Centre, where they have eliminated a combined three ranking event winners to reach the last four.
Wakelin is set to climb back into the world’s top 16, having narrowly missed out on UK Championship seeding and a place at the Masters.
This is his second ranking semi-final of the season, after sitting through Ronnie O’Sullivan’s two 147 breaks in the Saudi Arabia Masters last four in August.
A pair of 4-2 victories over Oliver Lines and Yuan Sijun sandwiched a 4-0 whitewash of Anthony McGill. He then defeated Northern Ireland Open runner-up Zhou Yuelong 5-3 in the quarter-finals, the stage at which he had fallen in each of the previous two years in Edinburgh.
The former Shoot Out champion now bids to reach his second final in the Home Nations Series, having been runner-up to Judd Trump in Belfast two years ago.
Selt, meanwhile, has enjoyed a welcome upturn in fortunes this week.
The Romford cueist arrived in the Scottish capital off the back of first-round exits at the Northern Ireland Open, International Championship, UK Championship and Shoot Out.
After beating Ryan Day in his opening match, Selt defeated a trio of Chinese opponents in He Guoqiang, Wu Yize and Jiang Jun to reach his first Home Nations semi-final.
Also his first last-four appearance in any ranking event since the 2022 Turkish Masters, the world number 38 can now book his place at the World Grand Prix with victory here.
A battle with either Mark Allen or Chang Bingyu for the Stephen Hendry trophy is the prize on offer to the winner of this semi-final showdown.
The match breaks off at 1pm GMT on Saturday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh.
