Wu Yize v Lei Peifan live stream | Scottish Open 2024 Final preview
Wu Yize goes head to head with Lei Peifan in an all-Chinese final at the Scottish Open in Edinburgh on Sunday.
A first-time ranking event winner – and the 78th in snooker history – will be crowned at Meadowbank Sports Centre, with the victor getting their hands on the Stephen Hendry trophy and top prize of £100,000.
This will be the first Home Nations final between two Chinese players, with the two 21-year-olds aiming to become the first Asian winner in the series since Marco Fu at the 2016 Scottish Open.
The two players are fresh from impressive semi-final comebacks. Wu reeled off four successive frames from 4-2 down against compatriot Xiao Guodong, while surprise package Lei overturned a 5-2 deficit to stun world number five Mark Allen.
Wu is aiming to go one step better than he did at the English Open, where he was runner-up to Neil Robertson in September.
After reaching the Shoot Out semi-finals last weekend, the world number 27 has built on that momentum, and has now won 10 of his last 11 matches.
Wu has frequently demonstrated his ability under pressure, beating UK Championship runner-up Barry Hawkins and International Championship finalist Chris Wakelin in deciding frames, while overcoming Wuhan Open champion Xiao 6-4 in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, his opponent has announced himself to the snooker world during a ground-breaking week.
Lei returned for his second stint on tour at the start of this season after winning the Asia Pacific Snooker Championship in March, and has certainly hit the ground running.
After reaching the Northern Ireland Open last 16 in October, he won four matches to qualify for the main stages of the UK Championship.
The world number 84 began his week with a credible 4-1 victory over Hossein Vafaei. He subsequently came through three deciders against former World champions in Shaun Murphy and Stuart Bingham – as well as recently crowned Shoot Out winner Tom Ford.
Lei then did the same from 5-2 down to stun Allen after midnight in the semi-finals, to set up an intriguing showdown with Wu over the best of 17 frames at Meadowbank Sports Centre on Sunday.
Play breaks off at 1pm GMT on Sunday with the opening eight frames, before resuming at 7pm with a maximum of nine.
