Snooker Shoot Out 2022 | Day Two Preview and Order of Play

Teenage sensation Moody face Zhang on Wednesday (Eurosport)

Teenage sensation Stan Moody enjoyed a dream debut at the 2022 Snooker Shoot Out by defeating Lu Ning in Leicester on Thursday.

The 15-year-old, making his first appearance in a televised event, thrilled a lively Leicester crowd by defeating 2020 UK Championship semi-finalist Lu by 53 points to 27.

The Halifax youngster has already won the 2019 English Under-14 Championship and looked at ease on the TV table as he produced a number of impressive pots on his way to a memorable victory.

He will be joined in Saturday’s Second Round draw by a host of top names, including reigning World Champion Mark Selby – who edged out Li Hang by 43 points to 38 to triumph on home soil.

Three-time World Champion Mark Williams ran out a comfortable 59-1 winner over Stuart Carrington, while 2005 World Champion Shaun Murphy staged a superb fightback to deny Chang Bingyu by just a single point after his opponent had made a half century.

The opening match of the tournament saw defending champion Ryan Day dumped out by fellow Welshman Jak Jones, while Ali Carter enjoyed a dominant 81-0 whitewash of Matthew Stevens.

Allan Taylor produced the only century of the day and the 23rd in Shoot Out history as he fired in a break of 103 on his way to victory over Liam Davies.

Jack Lisowski was also in fine form as he compiled a break of 89 in dispatching Leicester cueist Ben Woollaston, as Scottish youngster Dean Young made a 60 break on his way to an 89-32 victory over Lyu Haotian.

Reanne Evans, who was recently awarded an MBE, paid the price for failing to hit a cushion as Fan Zhengyi punished with a 52 break to claim victory.

Paul Deaville, who reached the Last 16 of the recent English Open as an amateur, marked his Shoot Out debut with a 59-50 success over Chen Zifan.

Ricky Walden bowed out of the competition at the hands of Zak Surety, while Nigel Bond came out on top in the battle of the former Shoot Out champions as he defeated Martin Gould 49-3.
