Shaun Murphy bowed out of the Snooker Shoot Out after going down against Ian Burns in the second round on Saturday.

The Magician was the highest-profile exit on day three of the single-frame event at the Morningside Arena in Leicester.

Indeed, the world number seven was beaten 55-31 by the player ranked 106 places lower in Burns, while Jack Lisowski also crashed out in round two at the hands of Robbie Williams 68-18.

There were no such problems for home favourite Mark Selby; the World champion making a break of 61 on the way to beating Elliot Slessor.

Meanwhile, former finalists Mark Allen and Stuart Bingham overcame Mark Lloyd and Lei Peifan respectively, as British Open winner Mark Williams saw off Mark King 50-26.

Hossein Vafaei also continued his impressive start to the tournament. Having compiled a magnificent break of 123 against Peter Devlin in the opening round, the Prince of Persia produced a neat 83 clearance to see off Barry Pinches.

Former English Open winner Liang Wenbo enjoyed a commanding 67-18 success over Zak Surety and 1997 World champion Ken Doherty overcame David Gilbert 27-9, but Scottish Open victor Luca Brecel was defeated 54-35 by Simon Blackwell.

Teenage sensation Stan Moody’s tournament came to an end. The 15-year-old was beaten 11-2 by good friend Oliver Lines in what was the lowest-scoring match in Shoot Out history.

There were mixed fortunes for former winners of the event. Masters runner-up Barry Hawkins – champion in 2012 – was beaten 36-20 by Ali Carter, while 2011 and 2020 winners Nigel Bond and Michael Holt defeated Peter Lines and Simon Lichtenberg respectively.

Lichtenberg’s compatriot Lukas Kleckers prevailed in a blue-ball shootout against Tian Pengfei, while an inspired Mitchell Mann beat Welsh Open winner Jordan Brown 38-33 and Aaron Hill edged out Jackson Page 27-26.
