Mark Selby and Shaun Murphy lock horns on Saturday for the right to play Kyren Wilson in the 2023 Tour Championship final.
Good friends off the table, the second semi-final at the Bonus Arena in Hull provides a mouth-watering battle of two Triple Crown winners.
Their two previous meetings this season have been shared. Selby prevailed 4-3 in the last 16 of the English Open, with Murphy exacting his revenge by coming through 6-3 at the same stage of the Players Championship.
Interestingly, the winner of their showdowns went on to win the respective tournaments, and both will hope that serves as a good omen heading into this weekend.
Selby will be hoping this is the week he finally ends his long wait for ITV-televised silverware; the Jester yet to reach a final in such events.
The four-time World champion suffered heavy defeats in his two previous Tour Championship semi-final appearances, losing 9-2 to Mark Allen in 2020 before succumbing 10-3 against Neil Robertson the following year.
But fresh from his WST Classic triumph, the world number two is certainly in the form to change the record.
He withstood a 147 and 16-red clearance during his 10-7 victory over Ryan Day in the quarter-finals, while hitting two centuries of his own along with a further five breaks over 50.
Murphy followed suit against Robert Milkins, avenging his Welsh Open final defeat by the Milkman as he recovered from 5-1 down to prevail a narrow 10-8 winner.
The Magician is now set to appear in the 50th ranking event semi-final of his career following an impressive start to 2023, in which he has also captured the Players Championship and reached the World Grand Prix last four.
Although, he has lost four of his last five meetings with Selby, including an 18-15 reverse in their most high-profile encounter in the 2021 World Championship showpiece.
The match will be contested over the best of 19 frames on Saturday. The first eight will commence at 1pm BST before resuming at 7pm with a maximum of 11 at Bonus Arena in Hull.
