Judd Trump and John Higgins go head to head in a blockbuster second-round showdown at the UK Championship on Thursday.

Two of the game’s greats – and two former winners of this event – face off at the York Barbican Centre with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

Trump has dominated the recent head-to-head having prevailed in 11 of their last 12 meetings (excluding the Championship League) – most recently a 5-2 victory at this stage of last month’s Wuhan Open.

The Ace has also been a finalist in 10 of the 12 respective tournaments, and will hope that proves a positive omen as he looks to add to his 2011 UK triumph – as well as his victories at the Shanghai Masters and Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters this term.

After reeling off five straight frames from 3-1 down against Neil Robertson in round one, Trump now targets only his fifth quarter-final in 20 appearances at this tournament – and what would be his 99th at any ranking event.

Champion in 1998, 2000 and 2010, Higgins is eyeing his 15th appearance in the last eight – and first since 2019.

The Wizard made a strong to his 33rd UK Championship campaign, with breaks of 110 and 92 as he whitewashed He Guoqiang 6-0 in the opening round.

Victory would make it back-to-back quarter-finals for British Open runner-up Higgins, following his run to the same stage of the International Championship earlier this month, while boosting his hopes of claiming ranking silverware for the first time in nearly four years.

The winner of this clash will play either maximum man Zhang Anda or former World and Masters champion Stuart Bingham in the quarter-finals.

The match breaks off at 1pm GMT on Thursday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the York Barbican Centre.
