Judd Trump and Kyren Wilson collide in a mouth-watering opening semi-final at the UK Championship in York on Saturday.
The current world number one and current World Champion renew their rivalry as they face off in a repeat of two ranking event finals this season.
Wilson defeated Trump 10-8 to claim the Xi’an Grand Prix title back in August, before romping to a 10-3 victory in last month’s Northern Ireland Open final to take his career tally to eight ranking titles.
Wilson has equalled his best-ever run in the UK Championship, with his only previous semi-final appearance coming in 2021 when he was denied by Luca Brecel.
The Kettering cueist began by whitewashing 2004 champion Stephen Maguire, before comfortably dispatching Chris Wakelin 6-2 and world number 98 Michael Holt 6-3.
He is bidding to join an elite group of players to have won the World Championship and UK Championship in the same calendar year.
Trump, meanwhile, finds himself through to the Last Four in the season’s opening Triple Crown event for the fifth time as he bids to recapture this trophy for the first time since his maiden triumph in 2011.
As well as his two runner-up spots, Trump has claimed the Saudi Arabia Masters title this season and has reached at least the semi-final stage in five of his eight ranking tournament appearances.
He began his campaign in York with a 6-3 win over Neil Robertson, before edging out another former champion – John Higgins – in a deciding frame.
The world number one then swept aside Zhang Anda 6-2 with the aid of four magnificent century breaks in Friday’s quarter-finals, taking his tally to seven tons for the tournament so far.
Trump holds the narrow upper-hand in the head-to-heads with 13 wins from his 23 previous meetings with Wilson, including a 6-5 success in the opening round of this year’s Masters.
The match breaks off at 1pm GMT and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the York Barbican Centre.
