Shaun Murphy will hope to shake off injury problems ahead of facing Judd Trump at the UK Championship on Thursday.
It promises to be a mouth-watering clash between two of snooker’s Triple Crown winners at the York Barbican, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.
Both players have reached the final three times at the sport’s second-most prestigious invitational event; Murphy lifting the trophy in 2008 with Trump triumphing three years later.
Although, it was a showdown that may not have happened, with the Magician sparking concern earlier in the day after tweeting that he was struggling with ongoing neck and shoulders issues that have plagued him in recent seasons.
Murphy posted: “In terrible pain today with my neck/shoulder. Started getting worse two days ago and I could hardly play at all yesterday.
“Going to try everything to be ready to play at 1pm but right now it’s not looking good.”

The two players arrive for this blockbuster last-16 clash off the back of deciding-frame victories in the opening round. Trump had to dig deep to scrape past Xiao Guodong, while Murphy prevailed in a high-quality clash with David Gilbert.
The Ace has won 23 of the 35 meetings between the players, including a 6-2 triumph in their most recent encounter at the 2022 Turkish Masters semi-finals.
Although, Murphy edges the Triple Crown head-to-head record having won three out of five such showdowns, while he has also prevailed in each of their last four clashes on UK soil – including an epic 13-11 success in the 2021 World Championship quarter-finals.
The winner of this match will play either Jack Lisowski or Hossein Vafaei in the UK Championship last eight.
Play gets underway at 1pm GMT on Thursday with the match contested over the best of 11 frames at the York Barbican.
