Judd Trump looks to improve his recent UK Championship record when he faces Xiao Guodong in the last 32 on Tuesday.

The Ace landed his maiden Triple Crown title at the York Barbican 11 years ago, beating Mark Allen 10-8 in a high-quality final.

Trump was also runner-up to Ronnie O’Sullivan and Neil Robertson in 2014 and 2020 respectively.

Although, the latter represents one of only two occasions he has progressed beyond the last 32 in the past eight years.

Nevertheless, Trump arrives in York fresh from a magical maximum break against O’Sullivan in the Champion of Champions showpiece, while he has prevailed in both his previous UK Championship meetings with Xiao in 2010 and 2013.

Outside the Championship League and WST Pro Series, the Bristolian has also gone on to win the respective tournament following his last two victories over the Chinese cueist – doing so at the 2014 Australian Open and 2020 Gibraltar Open.

Xiao qualified for the main draw after a pair of 6-3 wins over compatriot Cao Yupeng and Estonia’s Andres Petrov, who had beaten former Crucible semi-finalist Gary Wilson at Ponds Forge.

The world number 34 has positive momentum after defeating the likes of Ricky Walden and Hossein Vafaei last month on the way to reaching the Northern Ireland Open last 16, where he succumbed to eventual champion Mark Allen.

Xiao previously reached that stage of this event in 2017 and 2020, and he now looks to make it third time lucky by ending a five-match losing streak against Trump that stretches back to a 4-2 victory in the PTC Grand Finals 10 years ago.

The winner of this match will play either Shaun Murphy or David Gilbert in the UK Championship last 16.

Play gets underway at 1pm GMT on Tuesday with the match contested over the best of 11 frames at the York Barbican.
