UK Championship Snooker 2025 | Day Five Preview and Order of Play
Defending champion Judd Trump is one of four multiple UK Championship winners in action as the second round gets under way on Wednesday.
Sixteen players remain in the season’s opening Triple Crown event, with four of the very best set to take centre stage on day five.
Reigning champion Trump doubled up in this event 12 months ago, adding to his 2011 triumph, and began his title defence with a 6-4 victory over Stephen Maguire.
Although, the world number one boasts a generally modest record otherwise in this tournament, having only progressed beyond the last 16 five times in his 20 previous appearances.
Nevertheless, four of those have seen him reach the final, and he will hope that is a positive omen ahead of facing Si Jiahui in the last 16.
Seeded at the UK Championship for the second year running, the Chinese is appearing at this stage of the event for the first time. He does so following a statement first-round win over Ryan Day, who was whitewashed 6-0 on the opening day.
Meanwhile, Neil Robertson goes head to head with Wu Yize in a tasty all-overseas battle.
The three-time champion, who lifted this trophy in 2013, 2015 and 2020, claimed his first match win at the UK Championship since his most recent triumph when he beat Julien Leclercq 6-2 in the opening round.
Fresh from his breakthrough ranking success at the International Championship, Wu built on that momentum with a 6-4 win over Michael Holt, albeit the first-time seed scraped over the line having led 5-0.
Champion of Champions winner Mark Selby also looks to continue his fine recent form against Ronnie O’Sullivan’s conqueror Zhou Yuelong.
The two-time UK champion, who opened with a 6-2 success over another Chinese opponent in Lei Peifan, is targeting a ninth quarter-final appearance in this major.
It would be Zhou’s third venture into the last eight, and he is certainly in the right vein to achieve that. Indeed, he is fresh from claiming a first career win over eight-time UK champion O’Sullivan, and also beat Selby in the English Open semi-finals earlier this season.
The day’s other matches sees another two-time champion face a Chinese opponent, with Mark Williams and Pang Junxu going head to head.
Williams, who lifted the trophy in 1999 and 2002, is looking to progress beyond the last 16 for only the third time since reaching his most recent final in 2010.
As for Pang, he is one of the few qualifiers still standing, having beaten compatriot Xiao Guodong 6-2 in round one. Appearing at this stage of any event for the first time this season, he now bids to reach a first UK quarter-final.
Play gets under way at 1pm GMT on Wednesday with all matches contested over the best of 11 frames at the York Barbican Centre.
