Mark Allen and John Higgins renew their rivalry in a mouth-watering second round clash at the World Snooker Championship.

The standout tie of the last 16 at the Crucible – and one of only two between seeded players – sees the friendly foes collide for the sixth time this season.

Allen won their first two encounters at the Champion of Champions and Masters, with Higgins then enjoying a pair of 5-2 victories at the German Masters and Welsh Open, before the Pistol prevailed 10-7 in their Tour Championship showdown earlier this month.

Although, the Scotsman has come out on top in their two previous World Championship meetings. First, he won 17-13 in the 2009 semi-final on the way to a third Crucible crown, before a 13-9 victory at this stage in 2017 set him on track for a sixth final appearance.

Allen will hope it is third time lucky as he looks to reach successive quarter-finals in Sheffield, and his sixth overall.

The Pistol, regarded as one of the favourites to go all the way this year, made a solid start to his quest to complete the career Triple Crown with breaks of 114, 80 and 70 on the way to a 10-6 win over Robbie Williams in the opening round.

Higgins was also a 10-6 victor in round one of his 30th successive Crucible appearance, as he overturned an early 3-1 deficit before seeing off Jamie Jones.

The four-time champion, who hinted this may be his final crack in Sheffield, is now looking to advance to the last eight for the 18th time.

The winner of this gripping best of 25 match will play either Kyren Wilson or Joe O’Connor in the World Championship quarter-finals.

Play gets under way at 2.30pm BST on Saturday with the opening eight frames, continues at the same time on Sunday with eight more, before playing to a conclusion with a maximum of nine at 7pm on Monday.
