Stuart Bingham and Jak Jones go head-to-head for a place in the 2024 World Snooker Championship final at The Crucible.

Both players battled through the qualifying rounds to secure a place in the main draw and have seen off a host of star names to reach the hallowed one-table setup.

They are now bidding to become the first qualifier to reach the world final since Ding Junhui in 2016 and only the third qualifier in history to claim the title, following in the footsteps of Terry Griffiths (1979) and Shaun Murphy (2005).

For Bingham, it is his third appearance in the semis at The Crucible as he aims to replicate his career-defining triumph in 2015.

Having dropped to 29th in the world rankings after a barren two years on the tour, Bingham defeated Stuart Carrington and Louis Heathcote in the qualifying rounds to seal his 14th consecutive Crucible campaign.

The six-time ranking event winner has recaptured his best form on the sport’s biggest stage, defeating in-form Gary Wilson 10-5 before edging out Jack Lisowski 13-11 in a gripping contest.

He then produced an inspired final session to pull off a 13-10 victory over seven-time champion Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarter-finals on Wednesday night.

Jones, meanwhile, finds himself in unchartered territory after sensationally surpassing his debut run to the quarter-finals here 12 months ago.

Much was expected of the 30-year-old this season, but he failed to kick on from that memorable run, that is until he returned to the sport’s spiritual home.

Jones overcame Jamie Clarke and Zhou Yuelong in the qualifiers before opening up with a commanding 10-4 win over International Champion Zhang Anda.

He then defeated last year’s semi-finalist Si Jiahui 13-9 before dumping out 2019 champion Judd Trump by the same scoreline in the quarter-finals.

Nicknamed ‘The Silent Assassin’, Jones has become the seventh Welshman to reach this stage of the World Championship and is vying to emulate his compatriots Griffiths, Ray Reardon and Mark Williams – who have all been crowned World Champion.

Jones won his only previous meeting with Bingham 4-0 in the 2022 Gibraltar Open.

The match gets under way from 7pm BST on Thursday for a maximum of eight frames, resuming at 2.30pm on Friday, before being played to a finish over the best of 33 from 10am and 7pm on Saturday.

Either 2020 runner-up Kyren Wilson or qualifier David Gilbert will await the winner in the final on Sunday.
