Kyren Wilson v David Gilbert live stream | World Snooker Championship semi-final preview
Kyren Wilson and David Gilbert will do battle over three days for a place in the 2024 World Snooker Championship final at The Crucible.
A date with destiny awaits these two former ranking event winners as they return to the hallowed one-table setup in Sheffield.
Both have suffered heartbreak at this stage of the competition in recent years but will surely feel this presents their best ever opportunity of being crowned World Champion.
Wilson is the only seeded player left standing in the competition and is now favourite to go one better than in 2020 when he was denied by Ronnie O’Sullivan in the final.
The Kettering cueist is appearing in his fourth Crucible semi-final since 2018 following a string of superb performances which have put to bed a below-par season by his standards.
The world number 12, who made a maximum break here last year, thrashed the returning Dominic Dale 10-1 before comfortably seeing off debutant Joe O’Connor 13-6 in the Last 16.
He then produced a clinical final session to clinch a 13-8 victory over John Higgins and avenge his three previous defeats to the Scot in the sport’s showpiece event.
Standing in the way of Wilson and a second final appearance is world number 31 Gilbert – who has once again preserved his best form for the biggest event of all.
His only previous appearance at this stage of the tournament came in 2019, when he suffered heartbreak at the hands of Higgins in a 33rd frame decider which left him in tears during his post-match interview.
The former Championship League winner is bidding to become only the third qualifier in history to lift the world title, following in the footsteps of Terry Griffiths (1979) and Shaun Murphy (2005).
Having seen off David Lilley and Xiao Guodong in the qualifying rounds, Gilbert began by dumping out defending champion Luca Brecel in a deciding frame on the opening day of the tournament, before thrashing Robert Milkins 13-4 and sealing a commanding 13-8 win over Stephen Maguire in the quarter-finals.
He now meets Wilson for the second time at The Crucible, having pulled off a 13-8 success in the 2019 quarter-finals.
This will be their seventh meeting in total, with the pair having shared three wins apiece over the past decade.
The match gets under way from 1pm BST on Thursday for a maximum of eight frames, resuming at 10am and 7pm on Friday, before being played to a finish over the best of 33 from 2.30pm on Saturday.
Either 2015 World Champion Stuart Bingham or Welsh star Jak Jones will await the winner in the final on Sunday.
