Barry Hawkins locks horns with Mark Allen in a battle of the left-handers for a place in the World Snooker Championship semi-finals.

Two of the only remaining players in the draw yet to lift the trophy in Sheffield, they are just three more wins away from adding their names to the Crucible’s roll of honour.

Both are fresh from defeating former winners in the previous round; Hawkins overcoming three-time champion Mark Williams, and Allen beating 2024 victor Kyren Wilson.

This will be their third Crucible meeting. Allen edged through 13-12 in the 2011 second round, though Hawkins exacted revenge with a 13-11 victory at the same stage four years later.

The Hawk has won each of the last three showdowns, most recently an impressive comeback to win 6-5 in their 2024 UK Championship semi-final.

Hawkins boasts the stronger Crucible pedigree of the two players. Runner-up to Ronnie O’Sullivan in 2013, this is his seventh quarter-final appearance – eight years after his last.

This season’s Welsh Open champion has won five of his six previous such matches, and has momentum following his victories over Williams and two-time finalist Matthew Stevens.

Allen, meanwhile, survived Wilson’s fightback from 5-0 down to lead 6-5, eventually running out a commanding 13-9 winner.

The Pistol, who defeated Zhang Anda in round one, is now gearing up for his sixth Crucible quarter-final, and first since reaching the last four in 2023.

Allen will look to complete a hat-trick of semi-final appearances in Sheffield, 17 years after he progressed to the one-table setup for the first time.

There will be at least one-left hander in this year’s semi-finals, with the two players battling over the best of 25 frames at the Crucible Theatre once again.

The match breaks off at 10am BST on Tuesday with the opening eight frames, continuing with another eight at 7pm, before playing to a finish at 10am on Wednesday.
